Ikat – Page 3: Materials

Ikat frame, dowels, cords, and accessoriesThe frame is made from two slats of 1″x2″ finished lumber which has holes drilled at each end to receive two 7/16″ dowels. At one end, which we shall refer to as the bottom, holes have been drilled to hold four” long steel pins. To fold so ther e four layers, you will need five longer dowels (long enough to overhang the frame.)

Next to the frame is a warp chain of 20 ends ready to be placed on the frame.

The pencils will be used as spacer shims. The shoe laces, nylon cord, and rubber bands will be used to tie the warp to the frame.

Not shown is the roll of special ikat tying tape.
